All Treats, No Tricks
Celebrating Halloween With Brown Bag Liquor
The air is unmistakably chilly, our shelves are lined with pumpkin-flavored everything and the leaves are turning brilliant reds and sunset-color oranges. Yep, it’s October. The season of hayrides, scary movies and family fun at the cider mill. Halloween is on the horizon, and if you ask us – life couldn’t be better. But actually, it could. How, you ask? With a little help from your friends at Brown Bag Liquor. You see, we like to think of ourselves as Halloween experts around these Olathe parts. And as such, we know how to elevate your October – and specifically – your Halloween. Strap in!
Tis The Season For Pumpkin Beer
You don’t have to wait until Halloween to start thinking about pumpkins, and you certainly don’t need to limit your October pumpkin intake to PSL’s (pumpkin spice lattes for the uninitiated). We’re proud to feature over 40 seasonal fall beers, and the following are just a few:
Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin
If you’ve never tasted pumpkin-flavored beer before, Blue Moon’s Harvest Pumpkin is a great place to start. It’s a smooth wheat beer brewed with real pumpkin (real pumpkin!) and blended with cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and allspice. It calls to mind a breezy fall gathering with friends, jeans and flannel the dress code and a fire crackling in the night. It’s the month of October, bottled in one delicious beer.
O’Fallon Vanilla Pumpkin
Our friends across the Missouri border at O’Fallon really knew what they were doing when they dreamed up the Vanilla Pumpkin beer. It’s ingenious, really. They take the O’Fallon Pumpkin that you know and love, and they add locally-produced, cold-pressed Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla to it. Fans of amber ales absolutely cannot go wrong with this one. Just ask O’Fallon– it’s like a scoop of pumpkin pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. It’s their most popular seasonal, and it’s definitely worth a taste. But you can only get it through the rest of October, and then it will be harder to find than a variety pack of White Claws in a White Claw drought.
Woodchuck Cider Pumpkin
Cider drinkers, this one’s for you. The naked pumpkin profile and oak aging plays perfectly against the red culinary apple varieties used in this cider. The cider is a light copper with aroma notes of oaky squash and butterscotch. Pumpkin has an earthy taste with hints of vanilla and caramel.
The Ultimate Last-Minute Halloween Costume
There are two types of adults in this world: those who’ve had their costume planned out since July, and those who throw something together hours before the party. For those of you who tend to be a bit more last-minute in your planning, here’s a thought: Get a giant brown bag, cut holes around your eyes, and stop by Brown Bag for a BOO-zy compliment to your bag you can carry around at your party. Boom! You’re going as Brown Bag, your favorite local Olathe liquor store. Clever, but not so clever that it will take an hour to explain. DIY, easy, cost-effective. It checks all the boxes of an adult Halloween costume.
For those of you who prefer to factor in a few weeks between getting your costume and Halloween itself, we’ve got another idea up our sleeves (or should we say, our koozies.) Instead of going as your favorite liquor store, why not go as an employee of your favorite liquor store. Now that we’re selling official Brown Bag merchandise, you can do just that! Just pick up a Brown Bag shirt and hat (in the always stylish red or gray), and you’re good to go. Bonus points if you get a koozie, because who wants to get carpal tunnel for holding ice-cold beers for too long.
